Recently Canmore Nordic took our older athletes to Europe for some fun skiing, touristing, and racing different people! This was my first time travelling to Europe! We went to Switzerland (Les Diablerets, and Feutersoey) and France (Annecy, Chamonix, Praz De Lys, and Metabief). This trip was also to prepare us for international travel for racing in the future. So, ya know, when we're all racing the world cup and winning at the Olympics when we're older, the time change and different competition won't affect us as much. It was also really inspiring racing in Europe because it motivated me to work even harder with my training and racing, and it taught me that there's always someone out there who's a faster skier than you. I really enjoyed racing with harder competition because it forced me to push my limits in every race, and it taught me that giving up is not an option. I had so much fun and hope that Canmore will do another Europe trip sometime soon!
Here's some pictures from Europe!
Our flight went from Calgary to Toronto, then from Toronto to Munich.
Calgary to Toronto was 4 hours, and Toronto to Munich was 9 hours!! Thats the longest flight I've ever been on! This pic is when we were flying over some little town in Germany. So cool!
When we got to Munich, we had a 6 hour drive to Les Diablerets, Switzerland so we took lots of tired/stoked selfies so we wouldn't fall asleep!
Skiing in Les Diablerets
We were all so stoked and excited to be there!
We also did a 7km luge down a mountain!!!!!!!! So fun!
The town beside Les Diablerets was where our races were. It was called Feutersoey, and it was about a 20 minute drive from our hotel in Les Diablerets.
WE GOT TO RACE BESIDE COWS!
Best day ever.
We had 2 races in Feutersoey, a 5km classic individual, and a 10 km skate mass start! I wasn't feeling that great during my classic race, but I had a really amazing skate race! The best result for the girls on the classic day was 6th by Laurence, and the best result for the girls on the skate day was 5th by me! It was interesting to see how different the Swiss girls race compared to Canadian girls. The mass start day was really fun going head to head with all these super speedy skiers!
Because we have really bad FIS points, we all started at the front for the individual race! Georgia was number 1!
Heres some pics from the boys' races (unfortunately, none of the boys took pictures of us racing)
Reed and Ty got 2nd and 3rd!

Next we were off to Annecy, France, which was about a 4 hour drive from Feutersoey
Annecy was so beautiful! There wasn't any ski facilities here, we just came to be tourists for our rest day! I'm definitely coming back for the summer sometime!
Just your average French bakery
We drove an hour away from Annecy to another town called Chamonix, which is home to the beautiful mountain Mont Blanc!
We got the best Macaroons i've ever had in my life!
(L-R) Morgan, Me, Laurence, and Lauren
We also got the chance to take a gondola up to the top of Mt. Aguille which is the mountain right beside Mont Blanc!!!!!!!!! Stoked!!!!
G and Lauren enjoying the incredible view!!
It was so windy up there!
G found a birdy
Next was off to a town called Praz De Lys! It was so beautiful there! We had perfect weather everyday (sunny and +5 - +10)! This was by far my favourite town on the whole trip! I am for sure coming back here sometime in the future!
Here i am chillin on the deck of our hotel the Taconet!
THERE WAS A TRAIL NAMED AFTER ME!
Skiing (totally not staged) in Praz De Lys
We also went on a 2+ hour ski one day where we skied over a mountain and into the next town! Lots of fun downhills, and lots of walking on skis to stay in zone 1 up all the huge hills!
(L-R) Laurence, Emmy, Me!
Group pic of the girls!
Me and Laurence bought matching Swiss headbands in Les Diablerets
This is what freedom looks like
Training was so much fun!
(L-R) Eric Byram, a girl we skied with on the Praz De Lys ski team, Georgia, Morgan, Laurence, Lauren, Me, and Emmy
The last town we stayed in was Metabief where we would be racing in a French Cup, which is equivalent to Easterns or Westerns in Canada
We had 2 races in Metabief! There was a 1.5 km skate sprint, and a 10 km classic mass start! There weren't as many pictures from Metabief because we were all getting tired and forgot to.
In the skate race i didn't have the most amazing qualifier ever, but every single Canmore girl qualified for the heats! Morgan qualified 30th, Georgia qualified 28th, Lauren qualified 23rd, Emmy qualified 18th, I qualified 16th, and Laurence qualified 12th!!!! I was in 2nd place in my heat nearing the end of the race but unfortunately my ski got caught in some deep snow on a big downhill and caused me to stumble. I finished 4th in my heat, and no other Canmore girls made it past quarters. But we still had tons of fun!
In the 10 km classic mass start, they started the U18, U20, and Open women categories all together, so we were at the back (because we didn't have any French Cup points) of 72 girls and had to work our way up the pack throughout the race. It was really difficult conditions for waxing and the snow was pretty slow, but I still managed to smile while I was racing! I just kept telling myself, "Molly!! You're in FRANCE!!!!"
Here's a pic of a friend of mine who lives in France and is on the French National Team. She ended up coming 3rd in the sprint, and she won the classic day! I brought her some Canadian clothing and stuff for her and she gave me cheese, chocolate and some French team clothing! So nice to see her again!
Our stash of souvenirs to bring back to Canada!
Can't wait for the next trip to Europe!
